               COUNT AND NOCOUNT NOUNS WITH SOME ,ANY ,MUCH,MANY

Countable nouns: Los sustantivos contables se pueden contar por sí solos y pueden ser singular y plural, ejemplos: apple→apples, carrot→carrots, egg→eggs, banana→bananas, peach→peaches, etc.

• Singular: para contar un sustantivo contable en singular usamos a, an, one. Ejemplos: a banana, an apple, one lemon.
• Plural: para contar un sustantivo contable en plural, utilizamos los números (two, three, etc.) o la palabra some para no especificar la cantidad. Ejemplos: two bananas, three apples, some lemons.

Uncountable nouns: Los sustantivos incontables no tienen forma plural, todo se expresa como si fuera singular. Ejemplos: cheese, milk, butter, meat, rice, water, etc.

• Para mencionar a un sustantivo incontable usamos some. Al usar some no estamos especificando la cantidad. Ejemplos: some milk, some cheese, some meat.
  
• Con un sustantivo incontable nunca podemos usar a, an, one, two, three, etc. En vez de esos, utilizamos some. Ejemplos: a meat → some meat, two breads → some bread.

THERE IS & THERE ARE (hay, del verbo haber)

 

There is (hay en singular): Se utiliza con un sustantivo contable en singular, y también con un sustantivo incontable.
– Contable singular: There is an apple. = Hay una manzana.
– Incontable: There is some cheese. Hay queso.

There are (hay en plural): Usamos con los sustantivos contables en plural.
– Contable en plural: There are some apples = Hay manzanas.

SOME & ANY

• Some: Se utiliza con los sustantivos contables en plural y con los sustantivos incontables pero en oraciones afirmativas.
  
  
• Any: También se utiliza con los sustantivos contables en plural y con los sustantivos incontables pero en preguntas y oraciones negativas.
  

HOW MUCH & HOW MANY
Estas palabras interrogativas sirven para preguntar con la cantidad de algo.
How much (cuánto, cuánta, qué cantidad de):

Se utiliza para preguntar por la cantidad de un sustantivo incontable: How much + uncountable + is there?How much milk is there? = ¿Cuánta leche hay? o ¿Qué cantidad de leche hay?
How many (cuántos, cuántas): Se usa para preguntar por la cantidad de un sustantivo contable pero debe estar en plural: How many + countable plural + are there?
How many apples are there? = ¿Cuántas manzanas hay?

Containers (envases o recipientes): Los sustantivos incontables no se pueden contar por sí solos. Para expresar la cantidad de algo incontable podemos usar los containers. Aquí algunos ejemplos:

 

Answers: para dar las respuestas a las preguntas con how much, podemos hacer uso de los containers. Ejemplos: – How much juice is there? There is a carton of juice. There are 2 cartons of juice.

¿Qué cantidad de jugo hay? Hay una caja de jugo. Hay dos cajas de jugo.

How much candy is there? There is a bag of candy. There are three bags of candy.

¿Qué cantidad de caramelos hay? Hay una bolsa de caramelos. Hay tres bolsas de caramelos.
